About New York

The Russian-speaking map of New York is several neighborhoods, not one postcard. Brighton Beach in Brooklyn remains the densest street: Brighton Beach Avenue under the Q train, the boardwalk, and the blocks between Coney Island Avenue and Ocean Parkway. Sheepshead Bay and Manhattan Beach hold families who moved a few streets inland from that strip. Bensonhurst, Gravesend and a stretch of Avenue U mix a later Ukrainian and Russian wave with older Italian and Chinese blocks. In Queens the cluster is Forest Hills, Rego Park and the buses that run toward Kew Gardens. On Staten Island, South Beach, Grant City and New Dorp have their own Saturday schools, food shops and dental chairs.

What people actually search for is not a tour. Dentists who take a common PPO, immigration lawyers who have filed I-130 and N-400 in the Eastern District, brokers who have sat through a co-op board in Brighton or Forest Hills, and movers who will carry a piano down a pre-war walk-up. A plumber who answers in Russian on a Sunday still travels by neighborhood chat until someone puts a phone and an address on a public card. Adult clinics sit near the Q and B in southern Brooklyn; pediatric offices and weekend schools follow families who left the beach for Staten Island and central Queens. Restaurants and grocery counters on Brighton Beach Avenue are easy to find on foot; auto shops and home crews are not, which is why a directory with a map matters.

SlavList does not scrape those group chats. A Verified badge on a New York card means we checked a working phone, a street address, and — where the trade requires it — a license number against a state registry. Featured slots are paid, labeled Promoted, and capped at three per category in the city. Reviews need a confirmed email and are not for sale. If a listing is missing, the owner can claim it. If the phone is dead, we hide the card.
